Our history

Global Flight began in Sandton in 2009 with a simple goal: make business travel easier for South African companies. From that first year, the focus has stayed on practical support, fast response times and dependable service for travellers on the move.

Our history

2009: The first bookings from Sandton

Global Flight opened its doors in 2009 in Sandton, Johannesburg, serving companies that needed a proper travel partner rather than a call-centre style booking line. The first year was built around flights, hotel bookings and the everyday detail that business travellers need sorted correctly the first time. That meant clear itineraries, sensible routing, fare checks, and support when plans changed at short notice.

From the start, the business was shaped by South African travel realities. Meetings run late in Johannesburg, flights change when weather affects the coast, and corporate travellers often need assistance after hours. The early work centred on being available, organised and consistent, with one simple rule: if a client’s trip matters, the planning must be handled properly.

2010 to 2012: Building a dependable corporate process

As the client base grew, the team put stronger systems in place for approval workflows, traveller profiles and invoice reconciliation. Those years were important because business travel can become expensive quickly if details are missed. A hotel booked too far from the venue, an incorrect date, or a mismatch in billing can create avoidable stress for finance teams and travellers alike.

By 2012, Global Flight was handling more repeat travel for companies moving staff between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Gqeberha. The work was no longer only about booking a ticket. It was about understanding which traveller needed early check-in, which team needed rooming lists, and which executive needed a tight connection to get to a board meeting on time.

  • Cleaner booking records for corporate accounts
  • Consistent traveller profile management
  • More structured support for amendments and cancellations
  • Better coordination between travel, accounts and reporting

2013 to 2016: Growing with South African business travel

Between 2013 and 2016, the business expanded its support across more industries and more travel patterns. This was the period when event travel coordination became a bigger part of the service mix, especially for companies sending delegates to conferences, training sessions and product launches. The team learned to manage larger group movements with rooming lists, delegate arrival tracking and clear communication around each booking.

These years also sharpened the practical side of the service. In summer, coastal humidity can affect comfort, so hotel selection mattered. In winter, early departures and delayed connections needed careful planning. Load shedding at offices and venues created another layer of complexity, which meant duty of care support and after hours assistance became part of everyday work rather than an extra add on.

By the end of this period, Global Flight had earned a reputation for staying calm under pressure and keeping travel plans moving when schedules changed.

2017 to 2019: A stronger team and wider support areas

As the business matured, the team grew into clearly defined roles that matched the needs of corporate clients. Naledi Khumalo focused on corporate travel consulting, Johan van Wyk managed flights, Ayanda Dlamini handled accommodation, Michael Naidoo coordinated event travel, Lerato Molefe led client support, and Zanele Botha kept accounts and reporting organised. That structure allowed clients to work with people who understood their part of the process, instead of repeating the same details every time.

Support also reached more areas around Gauteng and beyond, including Sandton, Midrand and Rosebank, while continuing to serve companies travelling from Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Gqeberha. The service model was built for busy professionals who needed clear answers, neat documentation and one point of contact for the full journey.

  • Dedicated support for flights, hotels and event movements
  • Improved handling of traveller changes and special requests
  • More detailed travel reporting for finance and management teams
  • Expanded support for company travel across multiple cities

2020 to 2022: Staying useful through travel disruption

The travel period from 2020 onwards tested every company in the sector. Rules changed often, meetings moved online, and many travellers needed careful guidance on cancellations, rebookings and documentation. Global Flight responded by focusing on accurate advice, quick amendments and steady communication. For many clients, that support was not just helpful, it was essential.

During this time, the value of proper duty of care support became even clearer. Companies needed to know where travellers were, whether they had checked in, and how to respond when plans shifted at short notice. The team kept working through those pressures, helping clients protect time, budgets and business continuity.

It was also a period that reinforced the importance of after hours assistance. Business does not stop at 5 pm, and neither do flight changes, airport delays or urgent meeting changes. The company remained focused on practical solutions rather than complicated talk.

2023 to today: A mature travel partner for companies

From 2023 onwards, Global Flight continued as a more mature operation with refined processes and a stronger focus on service consistency. The team now supports itinerary management, booking amendments, cancellation handling, traveller profile management, approval workflow support, travel reporting, invoice reconciliation, rooming list management, delegate arrival tracking and travel document checks. Each service connects back to one core purpose: helping South African businesses travel with less friction.

Today the Sandton base supports clients through the enquiry form on the contact page, with assistance for companies and professionals travelling nationwide. Whether the trip is a single executive flight or a full event movement for several delegates, the approach remains practical, careful and direct. The business has grown, but the standard has not changed.
